Bambu Lab X2D: Dual-Nozzle Flagship That Kills Support Headaches

2026-07-24Source · Bambu Lab9 languages

The Bambu Lab X2D is a second-gen X Series printer with a mechanical dual-nozzle system designed to make complex, multi-material prints effortless.

A New Chapter for the X Series

Bambu Lab shook up desktop 3D printing when the original X1 launched in 2022. Now the company is pushing the bar even higher with the X2D — the second generation of its flagship X Series. Rather than chasing raw speed records, the X2D was built around a single, maker-focused question: why should finishing a print require so much manual effort?

Dual-Nozzle System with Mechanical Switching

The headline feature is a dual-nozzle extrusion system that uses a purely mechanical gear-and-trigger switching mechanism — no extra motor required on the toolhead. The primary (left) nozzle handles the model via a direct-drive extruder, while the auxiliary (right) nozzle deposits support material through a rear-mounted Bowden extruder. Because the support material is chosen to release cleanly, what used to be 30 minutes of sanding and prying is reduced to a simple, gentle pull — with virtually no surface marks left behind.

The lighter toolhead that results from this motorless switching design also reduces inertia and vibration at speed, improving positioning accuracy and overall print consistency. Bambu Lab reports the switching mechanism completed over one million cycles in life-cycle testing without degradation.

Smarter Multi-Color Printing

For multi-color work in PLA or PETG, nozzle switching enables near-instant color changes with minimal purging. Makers who previously dreaded the filament waste of multi-color projects can now tackle ambitious designs more confidently and economically.

Bambu Dynamic Flow Calibration

The X2D inherits AI algorithms from Bambu Lab's H Series in the form of Dynamic Flow Calibration. The system continuously monitors the extrusion motor, hotend, nozzles, and filament simultaneously, compensating for deviations in real time. This automated process runs before every print — no manual tuning needed — helping the printer deliver consistent results whether it's on its first job or its thousandth hour of use.

Who Is the X2D For?

The X2D targets makers who regularly print complex geometries, functional dual-material parts, or multi-color models and want a machine that handles the hard parts automatically. It sits between Bambu Lab's mid-range single-extruder lineup and the larger H Series, offering a compelling blend of capability and accessibility in a compact build volume.
