FORMISM by SCRY: Bambu Lab Brings 3D-Printed Shoes to Your Desktop

FORMISM by SCRY and Bambu Lab are making wearable 3D-printed footwear a reality — from free ARC designs to crowdfunded PERSONA and ROAM series.

From Concept to Everyday Wear

FORMISM, the creative footwear studio under SCRY, launched a collection of 3D-printable shoes on Bambu Lab's MakerWorld platform. The project is the result of years of real-world testing by founder Wei Zixiong, who has worn almost exclusively 3D-printed shoes for the past two to three years. His core mission: prove that FFF-printed footwear can match the comfort and durability of conventional shoes.

Three Series, One Goal

The FORMISM collection spans ten models across three distinct series. The ARC series is available as a free download and focuses on streamlined, practical designs for everyday use. The PERSONA series — inspired by the idea that every person experiences life differently — features three styles ranging from heels to sneakers, each with a bold, expressive design language. The ROAM series draws on sci-fi aesthetics, imagining footwear built for unknown terrain.

Materials and Slicing Are the Real Innovation

All shoes are designed to be printed with flexible TPU filaments on desktop FFF printers. Wei approaches slicing like a traditional shoemaker — carefully tuning infill density and wall thickness across different zones of the shoe to balance structural strength, layer adhesion, and cushioning. Bambu Lab also introduced new TPU color options, including a silver variant, as part of the collaboration.

Community-Driven Development

The PERSONA crowdfunding campaign on MakerWorld successfully funded, far exceeding its original target. User feedback — including real-world wear tests and print logs — has directly shaped the evolution of later series like ROAM. Three models in the ARC series remain completely free and open source, lowering the barrier for anyone curious about printing their own footwear.
