Creality's SPARKX i8 uses the new QuarTeks™ single-toolhead system to switch between four colors in under a second with zero external purge waste.
Why Multicolor Printing Has Always Been Painfully Slow
Traditional single-nozzle 3D printers make multicolor printing a frustrating experience. Every color change demands a full filament reload, hotend stabilization, and a lengthy purge cycle. On complex models requiring hundreds or thousands of color swaps, print times can balloon from hours into multiple days — pushing many makers to simply print parts in separate colors and assemble them by hand.
Introducing the Creality SPARKX i8 and QuarTeks™
Creality's answer is the SPARKX i8, a four-color FDM desktop printer built around the proprietary QuarTeks™ Color Change System. Rather than swapping toolheads or relying on an external feeder, QuarTeks™ integrates four independent filament channels into a single compact toolhead. All four channels converge just ~1.7 mm above the nozzle tip — at least 30 times shorter than shared paths found in competing designs — enabling a full color switch in under one second.
Zero External Purge Waste and No Prime Tower
Because so little filament occupies the shared path, the i8 can route any residual material directly into the model's infill instead of building a separate prime tower. The result is zero external purge waste on supported models, saving both filament and valuable bed space. The printer also supports a full CMYK color spectrum for vibrant, mixed-color output.
Speed, Reliability, and Smart Features
Creality rates multicolor print speeds at more than 500% faster than conventional all-in-one printers. Supporting specs include a 260 × 260 × 255 mm build volume, a 300 °C hotend, a 100 °C heated bed, 81-point auto-leveling, and 13 intelligent sensors for per-channel runout and failure detection. An AI-powered 720p camera provides real-time monitoring and alerts. The nozzle features a 5-second quick-swap design for easy maintenance.
How It Compares to Other Multicolor Approaches
IDEX printers are typically limited to two materials, while toolhead changers require bulky docking stations and complex mechanical latching. The SPARKX i8 sidesteps both trade-offs by keeping everything inside one toolhead — no swapping, no parking, no extra motion platforms — making it a notably simpler and faster path to genuine four-color desktop printing.
