Builder Mathias used Creality 3D scanners to digitally reconstruct his heavily modified Corsa GSTi racecar after a track crash.
A Racecar Project Built on Iteration
Mathias, the creator behind the Corsa GSTi project, has spent over 17 years developing a one-off custom racecar. With so many modifications accumulated over time, the vehicle had long departed from factory specifications — and no complete digital drawings existed to document its current state.
A Crash Becomes a Turning Point
In late 2024, a track accident damaged a significant portion of the car's bodywork and custom components. Faced with the challenge of rebuilding a heavily modified vehicle from scratch, Mathias turned to 3D scanning. Using the Creality Ferret, he captured key remaining parts — bumpers, side skirts, arches, and the front chassis section — creating a digital foundation for CAD-based rebuild planning.
Upgrading to the Raptor Pro for Greater Precision
After Creality provided him with the Creality Raptor Pro scanner, Mathias was able to achieve a higher level of accuracy. One critical application was suspension geometry analysis: by scanning mounting points and surrounding structures, he built a detailed kinematic model to understand and address the car's on-track handling issues — replacing guesswork with data-driven engineering.
From Repair to Full Digital Reconstruction
What began as a recovery effort evolved into a comprehensive digital workflow. Scan data enabled Mathias to redesign chassis sections, recreate the full body kit digitally, and work toward making the entire bodywork 3D printable — demonstrating how scanning and printing can work together in complex, real-world fabrication projects.
Why This Matters for Builders and Creators
This project highlights how professional 3D scanning tools like the Creality Raptor Pro can replace time-consuming manual measurement in automotive customization, reverse engineering, and product design — turning physical, non-standard objects into accurate, workable digital assets.
