Formlabs launches the Form 4 and Form 4B, redefining professional resin 3D printing with blazing speed, a larger build volume, and an expanded materials library.
A New Era for Professional Resin 3D Printing
Formlabs has unveiled the Form 4 and its biocompatible sibling, the Form 4B — the company's next-generation SLA resin 3D printers. Announced in April 2024, these machines are designed to set a new benchmark for speed, accuracy, and reliability in professional additive manufacturing.
Powered by Low Force Display™ Technology
At the heart of the Form 4 is Formlabs' proprietary Low Force Display (LFD) Print Engine, a shift from traditional laser-based SLA to Masked Stereolithography (mSLA). The system uses a Backlight Unit with 60 LEDs and collimating lenses to cure resin quickly and precisely, enabling print speeds of up to 100 mm per hour — two to five times faster than previous Form Series printers. The vast majority of parts are completed in under two hours, across all supported materials.
30% Larger Build Volume, More Material Choices
The Form 4 features a build volume of 200 × 125 × 210 mm — roughly 30% larger than its predecessor. At launch, it supports 23 validated resins, including new General Purpose V5 resins in Clear, Grey, Black, and White, while the Form 4B extends that library to 37 materials for healthcare and biocompatible applications.
Reliability and Workflow Improvements
Formlabs engineered the Form 4 for consistent, high-volume output with a reported 98.7%+ print success rate. The updated ecosystem also includes new accessories, improved post-processing solutions, and a refined user experience — making it a capable end-to-end fabrication platform for engineers, designers, and manufacturers alike.
